Biography

Chen Wei (b. 1980) lives and works in Beijing. He focuses on social themes such as urban landscape and disco culture, and works with photography and installation. His recent solo exhibitions include "WHERE ARE YOU GOING TONIGHT", Chi K11 art space, Guangzhou (2018); "Noon Club", curated by Francesco Bonami, JNBY Foundation, Hangzhou (2016); "Chen Wei: In the Waves", Chi K11 Art Museum, Shanghai (2015); and "Tight Rope" Yokohama Creative City Center (YCC), Yokohama (2011). Chen exhibited his works in various group exhibitions including "Night Fever. Designing Club Culture 1960-today" Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein (2018); "The Genius of the Crowd" Jendela (Visual Arts Space) - Esplanade, Singapore (2017); "Turning Point: Contemporary Art In China Since 2000" Minsheng Art Museum, Shanghai (2016); "Performance and Imagination: Chinese Photography 1911-2014" Stavanger Art Museum, Stavanger (2014); "ON | OFF: China's Young Artists in Concept and Practice" Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2013). Chen's work is included in the collections of Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Yuz Museum, K11 Art Foundation, the Rubell Family Collection, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art Kanazawa and many others.
