※The villages of Gaijima and Kawabe, located downstream of the Watase River, were designated for abandonment and conversion into flood control ponds as part of measures against mining pollution. However, the villagers united and resisted by refusing military service and taxes, ultimately securing the cancellation of the abandonment plan.
