※This work depicts the two landscapes that inspired its creation. One is the newly completed Ashio Copper Mine Memorial Hall, and the other is the deteriorating memorial for the Korean forced labourers at Ashio Copper Mine and the plaque listing the names of the 73 victims. The contrast between the two landscapes symbolises the destruction of history and discrimination. The paint represents the sunlight filtering through the trees in the forest.
* The go board used as material for the work symbolises the connection between my father and me. During the creation of this work, I learned that the company where my father worked, Fuji Electric, was part of the Furukawa Zaibatsu conglomerate. I wanted to incorporate this connection into the work, as it is something I have been involved with throughout my life. This work is also a sequel to an earlier video work titled ‘Playing Go with My Father.’ This work is also a sequel to an earlier video work titled ‘Playing Go with My Father.’
