in mid shapes: Guo-Liang Tan

Overview

Ota Fine Arts is delighted to present Singaporean artist Guo-Liang Tan's first solo exhibition in Japan. Tan creates abstract paintings using a thin, translucent fabric as a ground, and layers pale, transparent colours of diluted acrylic paint atop its surface. The wooden stretcher frame, which can be observed through the fabric, creates depth in harmony with the layers of paint. At the same time, its shadow accentuates the light produced by the colours. This exhibition will also feature large paintings painted on both sides of the fabric and presented as free-standing pieces positioned in the gallery space. By inviting viewers to move around these artworks, Tan questions the relationship between the object and the space while presenting the time embraced within the painting.
