※次々に大鉱脈が発見するが公害の噂も流れて思うように労働者が集まらない。鉱長木村長兵衛は1885年に大相撲の興行を呼び、客席で観客に一円銀貨（当時の１円は現代の２万円程度）を1500枚ばら撒き景気の良さをアピールした。
