Waterway: Lucy Davis, Zai Kuning, Takao Minami and Nobuaki Takekawa

Overview

The sea is an invisible, ambivalent and yet powerful force. Its shape transforms like a paradox -- it can be vast and endless as the Pacific, or as narrow as the Arabian Gulf, swallowed suddenly by land. Its waves are unseen channels which connect and divide cultures and peoples. And in its fecundity, the sea births whole ecosystems, causing them to flourish in every corner of the globe.

With an especial focus on the deltas, coastal areas and archipelagos of Southeast and East Asia, Ota Fine Arts Singapore is pleased to present "Waterway", a group exhibition exploring the sea and the manifold ways it moves through ecology, economy, history, nature and culture. The four artists in this exhibition -- Lucy Davis, Zai Kuning, Takao Minami and Nobuaki Takekawa -- unravel these marine routes though a diverse selection of media: ink on paper collages, stop-motion animation, documentary and digital film, rattan and wax sculptures, oil painting.
